Open-source licences

Last updated 2026-10-21

convertexa is built on the work of other people. This page lists every dependency that ships to your browser, the licence it is distributed under, and what that licence requires of us.

Permissive licences

MIT, ISC, BSD-2-Clause and Apache-2.0 allow the code to be redistributed inside convertexa. The copyright notices of these projects are retained in the distributed bundles.

Copyleft licences

The FFmpeg build that powers the video and audio conversions is compiled with --enable-gpl, which links x264, x265 and libvpx. Those components are licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later.

Project Version Licence Used for
@ffmpeg/ffmpeg 0.12.15 MIT WebAssembly wrapper around the FFmpeg command line
@ffmpeg/core 0.12.10 GPL-2.0-or-later FFmpeg build shipped to the browser, compiled with x264, x265 and libvpx

What the GPL requires of us

  • The complete corresponding source of the GPL-licensed binaries is offered below. The build is reproducible from the FFmpeg sources and the published configuration.
  • The binaries are distributed unchanged, together with this notice. No additional restriction is imposed on the code that links against them.
  • The FFmpeg wrapper itself (@ffmpeg/ffmpeg) is MIT licensed and is used unmodified.

Source offer: the complete corresponding source of the FFmpeg build that ships here is the FFmpeg 5.1.4 release, together with the external libraries it links. It can be downloaded from ffmpeg.org, and the exact configuration used to compile the binary is published below. A physical copy can be requested by post or by e-mail to legal@convertexa.com, free of charge beyond the cost of delivery.
